Dance Teaching METHOD D.D DanceDisability
NEW FRAMEWORK OF EDUCATING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH THE ARTS
Studying, researching and continuously learning together for 30 years with different groups of people of all disability types began with emphasis on the art of dance and aiming at treatment or rehabilitation or simply acceptance of the disability, by using arts in these people’s education.
The Art of Dance has its place in the field of integration as an expression of life. Each body is invited to participate in the Dance – Music combination in a way that recognizes its existence. So, dance allows all people with disabilities to harmonize their diversity, to express their feelings, to externalize their internal energy, in order to facilitate their communication, develop their confidence, their existence and their personality in general to be dancers.
Awareness of non-disabled people with artistic means also achieves the integration of disabled people into culture and convinces society that disability exists only as a prejudice. If we provide the education of Dance Art with educational tools during the adjustment to the disability, providing necessary means to each, we will have great results.
The teaching method through Art “ChoroChroma” (DanceColor) combined with Dance therapy (method of Primitive Expression EP) and contemporary dance techniques, Dalcroze Rhythmic and choreographic Composition elements, with specific approaches in terms of pedagogy, anatomy, and psychology underpin the DD DANCEDISABILITY method by Maria Char. Karapanagioti.
With the dance teaching method D.D for people with disabilities, “Dryades En Plo” build an educational framework in a perfect combination of science and art for people with disabilities.
This framework adapts to each person according to his or her disability. Thus, the disabled person works autonomously to acquire value as a person and as a dancer, developing his or her abilities to the utmost and enhancing their sensitivity towards themselves and their surroundings.
This Dance Education Framework for the disabled allows them to change their habits, to dare, to try to improvise, eliminating the difference and transforming it into complementarity.
MOTIVATION AND OBJECTIVE CREATION OF DANCE GROUPS OF DISABLED PEOPLE & JOINT GROUPS of amateurs and professionals.
Disability exists, but we see the dance through which it is expressed as a person like all of us.
People with disabilities can cooperate in dance groups with persons without disabilities to enrich one another.
Therefore this training of the Art of Dance in people with disabilities by Dryades En Plo is used according to each case both by staff of specialized structures in cooperation with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and art therapists, teachers, educators, dance teachers and choreographers.
Our effort is to spread it to more and more cities in Special Schools and Structures for people with disabilities with a view to creating dance projects to be presented in cultural events locally, Dance Festivals in Greece and abroad.
MEETINGS THAT ARE TO TAKE PLACE WILL GIVE ALL OF US THE MESSAGE OF UNIVERSAL VALUES OF LOVE AND STRENGTH FOR LIFE, FOR A BEAUTIFUL AND HARMONIOUS COEXISTENCE OF OUR DIVERSITY.
DD DANCEDISABILITY First educational seminar cycle
FROM dance therapy TO creating a choreography AND THE CREATION OF DANCE GROUPS for producing a dance project
Our goal through the principles of the method is to awaken the inherent primary rhythm, which drives the participants to express and to be expressed. So we can put the continuation of cell degeneration due to a disease to a hold. We move them emotionally to socialize within the group they are living in. We bring back skills, such as thinking and memory for a better sense of their everyday life. We put any depressive elements related to disability, illness, dementia etc. to a hold. We interfere in the behavioral level, attracting the interest and attention. We strengthen physical contact to eliminate fears and insecurities, to familiarize them with coexistence, and to stimulate the muscular activity through mobility exercises.
Thus the application of the dance therapy program creates ease of movement and weight shifting, accelerates cardiac function and respiratory frequency.
The rhythmic music improves coordination of walking, increases stability and mobility; it releases emotions and favors closer relations. It improves morale, reduces the feeling of loneliness and helps restore mental situations.
On an emotional level the participants feel happy, and surpass anger, frustration and loss.
On an intellectual level it enhances cognitive skills, motivation and memory.
Dance involves non-competitive exercises that offer an escape to physical tension and stress hormones, leading to response.
It offers a sense of completion and wellness, an antidote to everyday stress and is therefore the perfect medium to escape from unpleasant situations. Additionally, it allows participants to replenish their remaining abilities, to present their kinetic, dance knowledge and experiences in a personal style, communicate with the team and try positive feelings.
We maintain the social, emotional part active.
We help them express themselves emotionally with their eyes, face and body with whatever they can do; and at this point the creation begins …… and we produce work that an artist can create so the dance therapy group is transformed into a dance group respecting the diversity of the dancers, it becomes an integrated part of society by creating performances addressed to the public and can work with other groups and complement the landscape of culture.
